About the Campaign
MINT has celebrated many milestones over the 14 years we’ve been around. As art spaces have come and gone, we have weathered the storm, remaining a vital and dedicated support system for emerging and mid career artists in Atlanta. We have moved and served different neighborhoods, launched our LEAP year residency program, exponentially grown our programming and annual exhibitions, became the first Atlanta W.A.G.E. certified arts organization, and touched the careers of over 1000 artists. This summer, we took our biggest stride yet when we moved into our new, 7,300 sq feet location at MET.
Our goal in the coming year is to build out this former warehouse, transforming it into a mixed-use space with three galleries, five Leap Year-dedicated studios, and a large space available to an emerging Atlanta arts organization, and eleven studios available to Atlanta creatives, at a below market price. Your donation will help lay the foundation for MINT’s next chapter at the MET, creating the physical spaces and resources for local artists to focus on their practice and thrive within a community.
We’ve already moved, but the work has only just begun. Your donation will transform this former warehouse into a mixed-use space that has :
5 Leap year (artist residency) studios
1 large space available to an emerging Atlanta arts organization, at a below market price
11 studios available to emerging Atlanta creatives, all at a below market price.
Artists face a disheartening array of logistical and financial obstacles early in their careers. How a cultural community supports those artists dictates whether they chose to stay and make the city a destination for the arts. We have consistently risen to meet these needs. MINT has been growing for 14 years and plans to continue in this new home, empowering artists with a commitment to make their practices viable, visible, and valued in the city of Atlanta.
About Our Programs
Leap Year is MINT’s flagship program, having served 20 artists since 2011. Each year a panel selects five diverse, emerging artists from the Atlanta area to participate in the year-long fellowship program. MINT provides the artists with: dedicated studio space for six months; a two-week residency at The Hambidge Center; opportunities for public art and community engagement; complimentary memberships to C4 Atlanta, Atlanta Contemporary, and MOCA GA; studio visits with renowned guest curators and critics; an established Atlanta-based artist to serve as a mentor; and a solo exhibition. All artists who participate in our residency program are paid a cash stipend.
Each year, MINT is proud to also offer an Annual Juried Exhibition for emerging artists, a twice-yearly Postcard Pin-Up open to all artists, and our Invitational program for a selection of artists from MINT’s roster exhibiting unsold works from their own collections. This program inaugurated our new space at The MET in 2019.
MINT is the first W.A.G.E.-certified organization in Georgia, a state with has the 49th lowest per capita arts funding in the U.S. (National Assembly of Arts Agencies), which means the burden of paying artists falls on organizations like ours. W.A.G.E. certification has propelled us to be an even more integral part of Georgia’s arts ecosystem.
