MINT is pleased to present Nothing to Fear, Nothing to Doubt, an exhibition of works from Leap Year artist Ellie Dent, opening June 1 and on view through June 29 at MINT’s Downtown gallery, 92 Peachtree Street SW. There will be an opening reception for the exhibit on June 1 from 7pm–10pm.
Of the exhibition, Dent comments: “My work is a reflection of being a patient in today’s health industry. Motivated by fear and fetish, I manipulate appropriated hospital materials to create objects that require the act the examination. Specifically, these materials are ones our bodies interact with that identify us as patients. The objects act as props, souvenirs or mnemonic devices for traumatic experience. Using steel armatures, I present the body as a specimen, heightening the sensation of vulnerability and humiliation. My work is a critique of the display of power in the medical industry and the result of navigating the tenuous battle of gaining and losing control of our bodies during the current political debate on healthcare.”
